In your Opinion what breed of dog...?

In your opinion what breed of dog is great for Protecting the home and family aswell as social and loving. ideally one that is good with other animals as i have a small dog and cat and not immediately aggressive. i've done some research and so many things say Doberman, Rottweiler, Mastiff however my experience with the breeds as loving and non aggressive animals are few and none. i've been leaning more towards a Great Dane, what are your thoughts? thank you.
